Escape Nights: Dinner and Escape Room

Escape Nights: Dinner and Escape Room

With my friend Sarah coming to visit recently to join me on a taco tour of Ottawa/Gatineau, (read about the taco tour here) I started looking for Mexican restaurants that we wanted to visit during her stay. I have been wanting to try Zak’s Cantina in the Byward Market for some time now and when I saw their “Escape Nights” promotion I was sold!

Escape Nights includes dinner for two which consists of two margaritas or milkshakes, nachos to share, your choice of two mains (chimichanga, enchiladas, burrito, burrito bowl or Zak’s club) and churros for dessert as well as access to an room at Jigsaw Escape Rooms. All of this for only $75!

We started our evening with my 4 month old in tow, at Jigsaw Escape Rooms where we had chosen “The Castle” as our room.  Although we were unsuccessful in saving the Kingdom of Elmir in the allotted 45 minutes we had a great time! Everything in the room was well thought out and made us feel as though we were in an authentic medieval castle! I will definitely return to try out another room soon!

After the escape room, we headed next door to Zak’s Cantina for dinner. We were seated in a booth on the authentic Mexican bus that Zak’s has recreated. The decorations, music and bright colours made this genuine cantina experience memorable! The décor kept Baby Maxi’s attention throughout the meal while we were able to enjoy our food! Just behind the bus you will find the kid’s area, complete with a play kitchen to keep the little ones occupied while waiting for your food. What kid doesn’t love pretending to cook! The play kitchen is a favourite of my older boys and I knew  immediately that I would have to bring them to Zak’s soon!

Sarah ordered a margarita and I had a margarita milkshake. We were pleased with our choices as both were excellent and what better way to start off a meal than with a plate of nachos! We both opted for the enchiladas with a chicken tortilla soup on the side and were we ever glad that we did! They were outstanding and we agreed that it was one of the best dishes that we had tasted over the last couple of days! Next up, dessert! We were quite full by this time, but who can resist churros!

The Escape Nights promotion is an excellent way to have a night out that won’t break the bank! I know that my husband and I will be back for our next date night!
